Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from September 15th to October 15th, and honors the culture and achievements of our nation's Hispanic population. September 15th marks the independence day of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hondoras, and Nicaraqua, while Mexico celebrates their independence day on September 16th, Chile on September 18th, and Belize on September 21st. Following are a list of Hispanic Heritage Month events in the DC area:
Fiesta DC -
September 16th and 17th. The Fiesta DC Parade of Nations begins at 1pm on the 16th. Food and entertainment begins at 11am on the 17th for the Fiesta DC Festival. Learn more!
Smithsonian Events -
Throughout Hispanic Hertiage Month, the Smithsonian Institution will be hosting a variety of fun, family-focused events. A few of the larger events include Hispanic Heritage Month Family Day at the American Art Museum on October 7th, and The Story of Chocolate at the American Indian Museum on Saturday, September 16th. American Film Institute Latin American Film Festival -
Starting on September 14th and running until October 4th, the AFI Silver Theater and Cultural Center will be showcasing the best filmmaking from Latin America, as well as Spain and Portugal. Approximately 45 Latin American films will be shown throughout the month. Learn more!
