International Credit Union Day- October 19, 2017

In 1924, Roy Bergengren, one of the architects of the credit union movement, reflected on what a credit union can do for people. In 1948, credit unions in America, and later around the world, began celebrating the philosophy and achievements of credit unions every year on the third Thursday in October. The theme for International Credit Union Day 2017 is "Dreams Thrive Here,” and it’s meant to serve as a reminder of how effective credit unions like Lafayette Federal are at helping all people chase and achieve their biggest dreams in life.

This is because credit unions are not-for-profit, so their primary purpose isn’t to score record profits in order to cut distant shareholders bigger dividends checks. Rather, the primary purpose of credit unions is—and always has been—to be of service to their members. That means you.

This people-first philosophy doesn’t just mean better service, it translates into a better financial deal for consumers. In alignment with this philosophy, Lafayette Federal offers higher rates of return on savings accounts, lower rates on loans, and fewer and lower fees than other financial institutions.

If you’re currently a member, we’ll reward you when you refer friends and family! Refer a new member, and we will deposit $25 into your savings account after your referral joins the credit union. Refer as many people for membership as you like and earn up to $125!* Learn more.

_Visit any Lafayette Federal branch on October 19th and enjoy coffee and donuts on us!

LGBT History Month

LGBT History Month is a month-long annual observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements. Founded by Missouri High School History Teacher Rodney Wilson, the celebration originated in the United States and was first honored in 1994. LGBT History Month provides role models, builds community, and makes the civil rights statement about our extraordinary national and international contributions.

Lafayette Federal proudly honors LGBT History Month by supporting the great strides that have made in all areas—past and present. In addition, Lafayette recognizes the importance of continuing to honor and support such achievements in the future.

In honor of the month, there are several upcoming events scheduled in the area:
Reel Affirmations Film Festival
October 19-22, 2017

Human Rights Campaign National Dinner
